PROJECT 2
The Smith Family has commissioned you to design an addition to their house on the shore of Long Island Sound. The original house, designed in 1965 by architect Richard Meier, has been widely published and is internationally known. Unfortunately, the Owners needs have change since the original design, thereby warranting this architectural intervention. The Owner specifically request that the integrity of the original design be respected, yet the new addition should have its own presence.
Narrative
The new family moving into the Smith House wanted to add an extension onto the house to create more room for family. This addition had to consist of a gym, outdoor area, and a study so that the family could get their work done at home and enjoy some of their hobbies. They wanted to add an extension which is new in itself but wanted to keep the original architecture and bring it through to the new design as well.

The Arc Reactor

I based the main areas of the extension on the arc reactor, and each level shares some elements of it. When looked at as layers on top of eachother or X-Ray, the arc reactor is shown through all of the layers.
